“The clearest way to keep momentum going is to have constantly greater goals.”
Momentum
In life, it’s tempting to coast after reaching a peak, and then become complacent as we await the next big thing. However, this interim period between big events serves an important purpose. It reminds us that in order to sustain long-term growth, our focus should not be on speed, but on momentum.
"Inaction breeds doubt and fear. Action breeds confidence and courage. If you want to conquer fear, do not sit home and think about it. Go out and get busy."
— Dale Carnegie
As human beings, it's natural to feel fear and doubt when faced with challenges or uncertain situations. But succumbing to inaction will only amplify these negative emotions and hold us back from reaching what we truly want.
The antidote to this negative cycle is action. Taking action, even in the face of fear, will enroll us in a cycle of positive momentum. And each action we take thereafter, no matter how small, slowly chips away at our fears and doubts, supplanting them with an increasingly positive outlook.
In physics, momentum is a property of staying in motion. Yet, momentum is not confined to the physical realm alone; the same principle permeates our thoughts, emotions, and attitudes. And the greater momentum we have with our actions, the greater ability we will have to continue forward in the face of opposition and setbacks.
The cycle is simple:
Think positive thoughts → take positive action → achieve positive outcomes.
As we take action and build momentum, we begin to experience a profound shift in our mindset. Doubt and fear, once formidable obstacles, are gradually replaced by a growing sense of confidence and courage. With each successive step, we gain a heightened belief in our abilities and an unwavering faith in our capacity to overcome challenges.
Furthermore, momentum is not a one-time event, but rather an ongoing process. It requires consistent effort and dedication, a perpetual commitment to taking action and pushing forward. It is a continuous cycle of action, confidence, and courage that feeds on itself, propelling us ever forward to the next chance to go higher.
